The Cinema Heritage Project is a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing public understanding of Southern California’s role as the backdrop for the greatest movies ever made. Founded in 2006 by citizen activists in the Western San Fernando Valley, its mission includes fostering community pride, enhancing historical awareness, supporting preservation of movie landmarks and enriching the cultural life of the region.
With funding from public and private sources, including the City of Los Angeles, local businesses, charitable foundations and individuals, the Cinema Heritage Project presents events that celebrate the movies and the places where they are made.
Depending on the movie and the location, a Cinema Heritage Project event can include: presentation of the movie in a manner that best emphasizes its setting; displays of photographs and artifacts highlighting the location’s history and the film’s production; talks by experts in film and local history; tours of the site; dinner and music; a celebrity reception; and exclusive talks by members of the cast and crew.
